Fedora 9 Artwork Round 2 Update

For various reasons the Fedora art team has decided to push back the deadline for round 2 theme submissions to February 12, one week back from the original due date of February 5th (today.) We are hopeful that the extra week will give folks the time they need to get their submissions ready.
Want to get involved? The list of theme ideas is on the Art Team’s F9 Themes wiki page. The theme ideas currently being proposed are:

In order for any of these themes to ‘pass’ round 2 and make it to round 3, they will need at least 1 wallpaper design and 3 supplemental designs, 1 vertical, 1 horizontal, and 1 square in form. If you really like a particular idea, please help support it by either convincing your favorite local friendly artist to contribute towards meeting the base requirements or even try to help come up with ideas and inspiration for visually depicting the theme on fedora-art-list. ALSO! One interesting request, if anyone has ideas on how any of the above theme ideas could incorporate sulphur, please let us know!!
Now I am going to plug one of the themes I have been working on:

I’m calling this variation of the Waves concept ‘sulfuric waves.’ What do you think? I would love to hear any and all constructive feedback on it, you can message fedora-art-list with your thoughts or just respond to this blog post and I’ll make sure it gets brought up on the art list.

    Very good
I like your gray variation a lot!
Wish it will become the final one!
    Bye,
    Federico

  2. Yours look the best!!! So is the code name sulpher?

    1. Yep! I guess it's used to cure werewolves or something and that is the fedora 8 werewolf connection??

  3. Can you put a screenshot with the standard desktop icons as well ? The colors look striking, but there's this niggling doubt that the logo would be conflicting when used as wallpaper. This is a good one – being distinctly separate from the variations of blue being discussed.

    1. Hi sankarshan!
I haven't done a wallpaper design for the sulfuric waves yet. The designs there are for things like the gnome splash screen and the firstboot and anaconda banners.

      1. My bad. I went to sleep and then it struck me that it wasn't the wallpaper I was looking at 🙂 and yes, it still looks nice because it is different from the blue waves

        1. lol it's all good, rough mockup work can be confusing sometimes as to what it's for.

    Copper sulphate
Why don't use a copper sulphate (blue) crystal instead of the yellow one?

    1. Re: Copper sulphate
Well, I think a lot of people associate sulphur with elemental sulphur which is yellow. From the feedback I've gotten so far it seems a lot of folks would like to try a less blue theme for a change. I have to say though the copper sulphate pictures are saw are very pretty 🙂

        Re: Copper sulphate
well i suggested it just to follow the bluish fedora tradition 😉 just another thing…. instead of just one sulphur crystal…. what about a "zen garden" of sulphur stones?

        1. Re: Copper sulphate
ahh good suggestion!!! i will see if i can mockup something for that up…

    colors evenly distributed!
Looking at other artworks proposed fedora, I think that this theme should be chosen as the default. This is so far the best theme I've seen proposed for F9! I'm really looking forward to see this theme in F9.
    Keep up the good work!

I figure some more work needs to be done to get this theme ready, but it's already the best looking theme for F9 so far 🙂

    A crazy idea
    Hi,
I always liked the fedora default theme, so I never changed it and I hope this one will be the next. What I really liked about the last theme was the daylight effect.
So I thought about how to realize this with your sulfuric waves. The idea of burning the sulfur came in my mind.
This would give the theme some more blue, because of the blue flame of burning sulfur (picture at wikipedia), so people calling for more blue in Fedora will be satisfied! And perhaps I could be the other way round like daylight, start burning right after noon and burning high at midnight. Or if you follow the idea of a "zen garden", burning can start with the smallest crystal at noon and until midnight all crystals burn.
So its just a crazy idea and i have no idea how to realize it and how much work it needs, but perhaps someone else likes it too and can do it.
    Bye,
    Dirk

    Nice!
Love the crystals and the general color (well, maybe change the f from blue to yellow/brown as well)! Only the waves don't seem to fit. Is this water or a shiny surface the crystals are sitting on? Maybe try sand/earth with a zen pattern for the ground instead? But then you run into problems with the logo reflections on the left side…

    love it
Just like to say that I think that this looks really good. I like the departure from blue…not that I have anything against blue – it's just nice to have a change every now and then.
How about having the ripples animated, propagating out (slowly) from underneath the crystal during the day. 🙂

    I'm sorry, but…
…those are all ugly! The colors of the wave-thingy are great, but unfortunately that's about it. 🙁
