Sulphur is fun to draw

I really like drawing sulphur in Inkscape. 🙂 I came up with an easy way to do it. Basically you use the star/polygon tool in polygon mode. Set it to make 6- or 7-sided polygons, spoke ratio should be at about .8, rounding should be at 0, crank random up to .17. Then draw a shape to your liking – this will be one sulphur crystal, Sketch out paths to break the base path of your crystal into rectangular pieces. Then cut the path with those lines. Use varying shades of yellow with small very bright yellow highlights to make it look like a crystal. Once you have a few crystals, duplicate them like crazy and use the grid arrange and the align tool to randomize how they are compositioned.
Maybe if I have time one of these days I’ll do a tutorial. 🙂 It’s fun!
(p.s. I spent some time tonight gathering together an archive on the wiki of web promo banners that have been created for Fedora. If you’ve got one I forgot please add it 🙂 )

I'd love to see a screencast, or some pictures, would that be possible?

And looks really awesome too! 🙂
Could you do a Sulphur wallpaper? :). Crystals somewhere near right bottom corner or something like that. I really like colors of that banner above [1]. Really really great work!

The crystals look great, however it says to me; Fedora 9 will smell like fart.

    1. technically sulphur smells like rotten eggs, which isn't exactly the smell of fart. but it's okay. the smell will scare werewolves like you away 🙂

      1. no, that's hydrogen sulfide
It's H2S that gives rotten eggs their smell. Elemental sulphur is much less offensive, it has only a slight smell.

  4. Right, is easy and fun.
I tried a variation and it works pretty good too: instead of various shades of solid yellow for the different faces use a yellow gradient with different orientations.

    Crystalline cool.
The new banners are *superb*. I can't wait to see more of what the Artwork team conjures up for Fedora 9!
