Fedora 13 Lightscribe labels

Fedora 13 is out!

Nelson Marques and James Findley (siXy) have put together a set of LightScribe disc labels for Fedora 13. I don’t know if there is a way to use them using free software (I don’t have a LightScribe drive) – I know you can use LightScribe’s proprietary app in Fedora to make them. Anyway, these seem to be popular every release so here they are fresh for your F13 arch of choice, thanks to Nelson and James!

They use the Fedora Rocketlines artwork that was an early mockup / sketch for the Fedora 13 default wallpaper.

If you’d like to make your own design using Nelson and James’ designs as a template, Nelson has made the Gimp source available:

Note that the secondary font is MgOpen Modata, which you can install on Fedora (yum install mgopen-modata-fonts) or download from upstream.

Ohhh! It's pettry cool! I'm upgrading right now. In some hours my machine will be rocking with a fedora 13 release!!!
Thanks to all fedora team and community!!!

  3. Is there a blue coloured artwork that I could use on printable CD/DVD media? Usually they are cheaper than lightscribe ones, and faster to print.
Have you seen Community Fedora Remix 13.1?
If not feel free to test it out and report feedback.
I would like to use blue coloured version for DVD artwork for this Remix.
This Fedora Remix is made for Desktop users that takes what Fedora has done but goes beyond that plus it is made easier for new users and pros alike.

    1. Hi Valent,
Sure, the official (non-LightScribe) media labels are a couple directories up from the lightscribe ones:
      http://fedorapeople.org/groups/designteam/Resourc
The source files for them are in the parent directory one level up.

      1. Thanks, I remixed it and created new media artwork: http://fcoremix.wordpress.com/2010/05/26/rockets-
I would love to be listed on Fedora 13 artwork page if it is possible.
        Cheers!

Considering I'm running an "old" Fedora 10 desktop, which burning tool can I use that support Lightscribe (yes my hardware allows it) ?
That artwork is superb by the way 😉

    1. Hi Stéph,
The Fedora Unity project put together a HOWTO for using them here:

Also if you go to the lightscribe website, you can download their software as well. I do prefer the LaCie lightscribe labeler over the Simple Lightscribe Labeler from Lightscribe. If you want the image contrast to be darker, here's a link to the instructions – http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/pse/

  5. The Lightscribe website does have a linux download section, never tried it though…

  6. Unfortunately, AFAIK, Lightscribe can only be used with proprietary software. 🙁

  7. You can install autoten and there is an option to install lightscribe software from there.

Thanks so much for making one of these. I like to have professional looking DVD cases and discs sitting on my shelf. Actually thanks for ALL your hard work. You make Fedora look GREAT!!! I rarely change anything (appearance-wise) out of the box. 🙂 Thanks again.
