Das Problem mit Text in anderen Sprachen ist, dass man ihn nicht versteht. Und wenn man etwas nicht versteht, neigt man dazu es zu meiden. Und das führt dazu, dass keiner einen solchen Planet liest.

while i wouldn't have a problm if you posted this in your blog on a planet, i do have a problem if you decide to post something directly to me in a language i do not speak without providing a translation.

Translation:
The problem with text in other languages is that one doesn't understand it. And if one doesn't understand something, one tends to avoid it. And that leads to nobody reading such a planet.

Nice post and all, but he wasn't saying english is the one true language. He was saying maybe there is a way to seperate planets by language without duplicate posts so that people who read a certain language could read that.

i don't understand.
you can create separate planets for other languages. if the people who speak x language want to set that up, more power to them, there's nothing stopping them. they haven't, i'm guessing because each language lacks a critical mass. does that mean those voices shouldn't be heard? i don't think so.

ps nothing stopping you from setting up a 'downstream' english-only planet.
I'm not Lennart but I think that when you find that half the daily posts are in a different language from English it's time to set up localized planets.
then do that. nobody is stopping you. set up your own english only version of planet.fpo.

doesn't the potential form convert 読む to 読める which is -る verb which means て not で?

And what about past policy? My blog at http://danilo.segan.org/ has been bilingual (Serbian and English) from the very start, but Jeff asked me to filter only for English entries for inclusion in the Planet GNOME (I notice that you are probably talking about Planet Fedora, but you are being syndicated to both :).
It may seem as if everybody else is circumventing the policy by posting entries in different languages after they were already added to the Planet.
It's not that I mind entries in different languages at all, though (and, there is a Serbian planet I have set up :).
Anyway, I think it's just about people wanting to fight over something, so any reason is as good as any other (politics, language, …), as long as planets are considered "public commodity".

A re-translation of your English translation to Japanese:
英語以外の言葉でブログを書いてもいいと思います。
あなたは別に読まなくてもいいわけですし。
This is not a literal translation (especially the second sentence), but it sounds more natural to me (a native Japanese speaker).
languages
There are times when I understand Lennart's point (when I fell helpless in front of a post in Chinese or Japanese) but there are times when I feel tempted to blog in my native language (Romanian), a temptation I *usually* resist.
On top of that, my blog is aggregated on a couple of English Planet sites and also on one Romanian one… (I think I'll talk some guys for some more Romanian aggregators, we don't have yet a Romanian Fedora planet)
I am not happy with tagging either: for a general interest article, addressed to both English and Romanian readers, what am I supposed to do? Post twice, in both languages and tag appropriately? Is a lot of redundant work.
Not use tags, put in the same post both the English and Romanian text? Then it may be noticed only by those understanding only the language of the first half.
Conclusion? For now I focus on English speakers and the Romanians knowing English, I have no better solution.
Do you remember your recent post about minorities and frustration? The frustration of being in a language minority is real.
