Unpackaged Open Font of the Week: m+ fonts

I’ve decided to try to feature one cool unpackaged-in-Fedora but freely-licensed font per week for the foreseeable future. There’s a couple of reasons I’d like to do this: To simply keep up with the freely-licensed font options available, and share them for other designers’ benefit. Since I last did a review of freely-licensed fonts in …

more get.fpo redesign mockups

The screens highlighted in blue here show the screens of concern within the www.fedoraproject.org structure and which ones I’ve mocked up: The main idea is that we’ve got a main download page that is very pared-down and offers you a single thing to download (aimed at users who want to try out Fedora for the …

shameless font packaging begging again

SMonohand is a cool monospace handwritten font done by dalles on Open Font Library. I saw a presentation today done with a blackboard background using Apple’s Chalkboard font. I think SMonohand might be a good font to do this kind of thing in an open way. It will probably appeal to kids too. Anyone up …

Designing Designing (Meta Design)

I don’t think I’ve done any design work for the tools I use to make designs. You’d think those would be the UIs I’d be most interested in working in, but somehow it just never happened. My favorite and much beloved design tool is Inkscape and for the most part it just works, I get …

Dedication

Here is real dedication, from my co-worker Thomas Cameron! Do you know anyone with a Fedora tattoo? (Hopefully not the first tattoo created in Inkscape. 🙂 If you are interested in an SVG of the tribal marks let me know.)

Getting Fedora Survey Result Discussion

Hey, so I’ve been pondering the results of the ‘getting Fedora’ survey that I compiled last night. Here’s what I’ve been thinking about and some of my ideas. Please share your own and let me know if I’m off-base with any of my ideas 🙂 The vast majority of survey respondents came from planet.fpo and …

Getting Fedora Survey Results

Some caveats: Many respondents gave multiple answers to questions. I counted every answer – I did not limit each respondent to one answer. Maybe this means using pie charts is bogus (I’m open for other recommendations!) But consider that the percentages are percentages of the total responses, which is greater than the number of total …

AVF files… sigh

So I got this video here: http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/temp/vidvid/2009_08_25_21_07_59_ch3.avf It has a friend: http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/temp/vidvid/2009_08_25_21_07_59_ch3.tbl I installed the whole triumvirate of codecs including the naughties – gstreamer-plugins-good, gstreamer-plugins-bad, gstreamer-plugins-ugly. I also installed mplayer and vlc. Mplayer and VLC can play it. Gstreamer can’t. It says it’s DIVX. :-/ any ideas?
