Creative Commons Artists: Ruth Theodore

I tend to blog mostly about openly-licensed and created-in-FOSS graphic art. I thought for a change of pace I would try to blog about some of my favorite openly-licensed music.

“Ruth & Robin” by pintsized, used under a Creative Commons 2.0 Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike license.
Ruth Theodore is an artist I recently discovered exploring the Jamendo catalogue in Rhythmbox (I <3 the Rhythmbox Jamendo plugin!). Ruth’s music and voice are very impressive. Her music is mostly acoustic guitar with some occasional splashes of strings, accordions, clarinets, and other instruments – I would consider it kind of folk/rock. At points her singing style and guitar style are reminiscent of Ani Difranco, but I think her music is maybe a bit more accessible than Ani Difranco (my only explanation is that maybe it’s a bit more pop-y.) The production quality on her album, Worm Food, is extremely high and the entire album start to finish is a pleasure to listen to especially on a hot day, chillin’ out with a cold drink! My favorite song off of Worm Food has got to be “Ugly Faces.”
Check out Ruth’s album, Worm Food now!

Happy you like 'Worm Food' so much – Ruth is a rare talent indeed.
I play double bass and mandolin on the album, co-wrote 'Ugly Faces' and mucked in with engineering and arranging some of the songs.
Inspired by Ruth's lead, my debut album is also available on Jamendo and features Miss Theodore on the odd backing vocal.
You can lend your ears to it here if you fancy – <a href="http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/30315” target=”_blank”>http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/30315

    Hey, that's good stuff
Thanks for sharing, I listened online and now I'm going to download, and then decide how much to pay for it.
I keep forgetting about Jamendo, but people keep pointing out good stuff there…
This was a good find, I'm really enjoying it.

unfortunately Ruth and/or her label decided to remove the download from Jamendo 🙁
the album is still CC-BY-NC (as the license is not revokable) but is only offered as paid download (http://music.ruththeodore.com/album/worm-food).
anyone out there who would be willing to give me a copy?
