Inkscape Tutorial: Sulphur Crystals

Well, due to popular demand, I decided to try my hand at creating a screencast tutorial on how to make the sulphur crystals I made for some of the F9 theme mockups and F9 alpha banners. I hope you enjoy it, let me know if you have any questions about it. I created the video by creating small ogg clips of each step made with Istanbul and then composing them together and adding a music track in Cinelerra.

The music track is A Song Called April by Lanzerote, licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Licensed.
Ogg available here (for now, I don’t have much space for it.)

I would love to learn a bit about masks. I never seem to get them to work 🙁

I've used blip.tv for Ogg theora video hosting before now, if you want your Ogg version of the screencast to not have to disappear. (Cool, by the way. I'm always really impressed with these techniques for doing cool graphical things! How do you think this stuff up?)

  7. Cinelerra
You drove me to want to try Cinelerra… RPM hell 101! It is available on freshrpms but it conflicts with multimedia plugins from livna 🙁
Most likely I will delay this until the two repositories finish their merge into rpmfusion…

    1. Re: Cinelerra
Yeh that's probably a good idea.
Here's how I managed to get it installed:
      1) rpm -qa | grep lvn <= all or most of your livna packages
      2) yum remove output from #1
      3) disable livna repo
      4) enable freshrpms
      5) yum install cinelerra

      1. Re: Cinelerra
There were only 3 specific applications in the dependency conflict: vlc, mplayer/mencoder and gstreamer-plugins-bad, probably I can remove just those, disable livna, enable freshrpms, install cinelerra and multimedia playback, disable freshrpms and enable livna again (livna has more packages compared with freshrpms and more maintainers).
But this is a sure way to insanity… I need some more motivation before going into it.

        1. Solution – Re: Cinelerra
And the better solution is… install Cinelerra from another repository, kwizart. That is compatible with livna
